Almost a half of soldiers and commanders in the US Armed Forces (46%) believe that their country will be drawn into a large-scale armed conflict in 2019, reveals a new Military Times’ poll of active-duty troops. They didn’t clarify though what kind of war with Russia they expect. Neither have they presented any analysis of a potential strategic armed conflict between Moscow and Washington. US servicemen didn’t consider the latest trends and changes in the way our countries will do combat in the near future. They have briefly mentioned cyberattacks, but only the ones that took place this year.
Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed Iran’s withdrawal from Syria is not Russia’s responsibility while announcing Russia will soon deploy hypersonic weapons.
Speaking at a foreign policy forum in Sochi Thursday, Putin claimed that it is up to Syria and Iran, both “independent countries”, to decide whether Iran withdrawal from Syria. He claimed while Russia helped negotiate Iran’s withdrawal from southern Syria, that “Syria and Iran are both independent countries. They need to build their relationship on their own.”
Putin also announced that Russia would deploy its latest hypersonic weapon, the “Avangard”, in the coming months, claiming, however, that Russia would not initiate any strikes and would only retaliate if attacked. He stated “The aggressor should know that retaliation is inevitable, and he will be destroyed… We [Russia] would be victims of an aggression and would get to heaven as martyrs…”
The Department of Homeland Security reissued for the seventh time a National Terrorism Advisory System Bulletin, which makes note of terrorists’ potential to use drones and chemical attacks outside of the groups’ occupied territory and conflict zones.
The NTAS Bulletin replaced in December 2015 the post-9/11 color-coded alert system. The higher levels of advisory in the NTAS system are Elevated Alert or Imminent Alert; neither have been used since the system went into effect.

Tornado activity is increasing most in Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, Louisiana, Alabama, Kentucky, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa and parts of Ohio and Michigan. There has been a slight decrease in the Great Plains, with the biggest drop in central and eastern Texas. Even with the decline, Texas still gets the most tornadoes of any state.
